Collagen is a key structural component in our skin, hair, nails and connective tissue, providing them with firmness and strength. From early adulthood onwards our body produces less and less collagen resulting in a net loss of 1% or more a year. As a result, skin loses firmness, bones lose density and muscles lose strength. Supplementation with Collagen Revitalise can help to combat this. Research has identified collagen damage as one of the features of vitiligo.

More information below
Collagen is a group of naturally occurring proteins found in all mammals, especially in the flesh and connective tissue. It is the primary structural protein in the human body (often referred to as the glue that holds the body together) and is a key component in skin, hair and nails. Revitalise collagen is a powdered blend of the best quality pure hydrolysed types I and III collagen, which means that is it readily absorbed into the body where it can support the maintenance and recovery of soft tissue and joints.
Why is it in Vitiligo Store?
The general benefits of collagen supplementation to skin health are well documented but the possible relevance to vitiligo is less well known. Research does suggest, however, that collagen damage occurs in vitiligo, possibly due to free radical activity.
How does it work?
Some collagen supplements are derived from plants or from shellfish. These may have limited or no value as they are not absorbed and used by the body in the same way as Revitalise Collagen, which is from a bovine source.
- I started taking this collagen supplement at approximately the same time as I began experimenting with Boost and Five a Day+V. So, unfortunately, I have no way of knowing whether or not it played a part in my dramatic repigmentation. In spite of the research I refer to above, I am inclined to think the effect on my pigment was probably minor compared to the other supplements. However, I do think it played a part and I certainly noticed within a couple of weeks that the skin all over my body was incredibly smooth to the touch (as if I was moisturising every day - which I wasn't!) and people started telling me how well I looked. Although my vitiligo was very severe at that time, I noticed that taking collagen added a healthy glow to my complexion, almost as though I had been getting plenty of fresh air and exercise. I also noticed a huge reduction in hip pain (maybe my arthritic hip was a result of autoimmune collagen damage related to my vitiligo?)
- I took approx 2 grams of powder every night just before going to bed. You can take collagen at any time of day, but it seemed to make sense to take it before sleep since this is the time when the body repairs and regenerates.
- The powder can be stirred into yogurts or smoothies. Or you can mix it with water. NOTE: put the collagen powder into a dry glass first, then add the water and stir and leave for five minutes until the water is completely clear. Otherwise, the collagen will go all gloopy! If you mix it correctly it will look, taste and smell just like drinking a glass of pure water.
