Xenca Vitamin D3 tablets
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin and is unique because it functions as a pre-hormone. It is not "just" a vitamin: it is actually a neuro-regulatory steroidal hormone that influences nearly 3,000 of the 25,000 different genes in the body.
Deficiency in vitamin D causes many health risks including autoimmune conditions, which makes it possibly the most important vitamin for anyone with vitiligo.
Each tablet provides 10 mcg (400 ius) of Vitamin D3
Take 1 (one) tablet per day with meals

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin and is unique because it functions as a pre-hormone. It is not simply a vitamin: it is also a neuro-regulatory, steroidal hormone that influences nearly 3,000 of the 25,000 different genes in the body. For this reason, it is one of the most crucial nutrients for good health. The two principal ways of getting vitamin D are by exposing your bare skin to sunlight (specifically UVB) and by taking vitamin D supplements. It is not possible to get the right amount of vitamin D your body needs from food. Therefore most people are deficient in it unless they live close to the equator where the UVB levels are high.
There are two types of vitamin D: D2, which is what doctors used to prescribe for children with Rickets, and D3 (a.k.a cholecalciferol), which is the vitamin D of choice for supplementation because of its superior therapeutic value.
Why is it in Vitiligo Store?
Vitamin D3 is the same type of vitamin D that your body produces in your skin and which is responsible for the pigmentation process after exposure to sunlight (or UVB phototherapy). Given its vital role in the pigmentation process, it is significant that most vitiligo sufferers are deficient in this vitamin. Whether the deficiency is a result of having vitiligo or a cause is not clear. But research would suggest it may well be a cause and certainly an aggravating factor at the very least. Insufficient vitamin D increases many health risks, including osteoporosis, rickets, high blood pressure, tuberculosis, cancer (breast, colon & prostate), periodontal disease, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD Syndrome), depression, peripheral artery disease, cognitive impairment and obesity. Most significantly, for vitiligo, it is known to lead to autoimmunity.
How does it work?
As well as boosting the healthy functioning of immune cells, vitamin D is required for proper calcium absorption. This is why it is essential for the maintenance of normal bones and teeth and for the skin's ability to produce pigment. (Only when vitamin D is present can calcium in the epidermis perform its job of regulating the skin's pigment cells.)
Tips from The Vit Pro
- Since adequate vitamin D levels are so crucial for the skin's pigmentation process and to guard against autoimmunity, I highly recommend that anyone with vitiligo have their vitamin D levels checked. If you live far from the equator, use sunscreen, avoid sunbathing and/or have vitiligo you are almost certainly not getting enough vitamin D and should use a good vitamin D supplement to combat your vitiligo and improve general health.
- The best value D supplement in Vitiligo Store is Xenca Vitamin D tablets. Oral supplementation of vitamin D has no side effects for the vast majority of people. However, if you (like me) are one of the few who experience constipation when taking oral vitamin D, I recommend Better You - DLux3000 Daily Vitamin D Oral Spray which by-passes the digestive system and is absorbed directly into the bloodstream.
- Daily use of Boost Tanning Capsules will help – as part of its formulation - to increase vitamin D levels but only supplies around a quarter of the recommended daily amount so additional supplementation is recommended.
- The need for anyone with vitiligo to compensate for insufficient vitamin D means that regular, moderate sun exposure is preferable to wearing sun protection since this prevents vitamin D synthesis. I only use sunscreen when absolutely necessary (i.e. when it is the only way to avoid sunburn) and then I only use a natural mineral sunblock.
